Windows95 Interface Styles
After checking for some time about the different versions that exist of Windows95, it reminded me about how much I enjoyed the way windows user to display itself in the past.
When Windows95 released back then in the 90s, it used to have some already pre-made presets of color schemes to be applied, examples like:
-
Standard
-
Slate
-
Maple
-
Brick
-
Pumpkin
-
Storm
-
Rainy Day
-
Wheat
-
Teal
-
Rose
You could easily change the full color palletes for the interface, and it simply felt you had way more creativity to customize your computer at will. At least compared to now where since Windows 7 and onwards ,started a change with the user interfaces, and it slowly started to lose some of those customizations you could do in previous versions of Windows.
Below, you can find some images of these amazing color palletes and schemes that were available before:
If there is something I truly miss from old windows, it has be definitely tied to the customization aspects, since all I see from the newer and latest versions
over the years, is a very minimalistic approach with almost no room of customization, unless you are willing to tinker your settings a lot, as most applications or programs that you run on these newer versions sometimes do not adapt the colors of your theme.
Currently for Windows 11, there's the alternative of the Stardock Software, such as:
-
WindowsBlinds11
-
StartMenu11
-
Fences6
-
CursorsFX
I Do not recommend these programs at all, since all of these programs are features that ARE PAID , despite it's a customization that should've been free since the release of Windows11, since attempting these customization with other software can be more limited, or in some cases not good for perfomance.
Feels for me that over the years, it slowly lost that creativity and identity it used to have, with these really bright color themes, and more-accesible interfaces that allowed you to customize your desktop further and further.
In another post, I will show and cover the great extensions that were added on the Windows95!Plus version, that was added later on, but I hope this post was clear to show how the Style Interfaces has changed over the years, in my opinion to a more limited feeling of costumization.
